DOUGIE POYNTER (bass/vocals)

Dougie Lee Poynter was born on the 30th of November, 1987. He is originally from Corringham, Essex in England, but is residing somewhere in London, England. Dougie became involved with McFLY at the young age of 15. In the band, Dougie is mainly the bassist, but contributes both lead vocals and back up vocals. He also helps compose lyrics. Transylvania, on the Motion in the Ocean CD, is a song that was mainly written by Dougie with the help of band mate, Tom Fletcher. The song became McFLY's seventh number one single.

Before Dougie was involved with McFLY, he played in a small band called Ataiz. This group consisted of Dougie and a few of his friends. But before the band could go anywhere Dougie left the band and home to audition for the part in McFLY. Silence is a Scary Sound was a song that both McFLY and Ataiz performed; Dougie composed this song.

Dougie has a lot of success in McFLY. By the time he was 17, the band had already had two number one albums and five number one singles. Dougie, as well as the rest of the band, state that he will stay in the band for many years to come.

Blink-182 is Dougie's biggest musical influence. He says that Tom Delonge, and Mark Hoppus were his inspirations to learn a musical instrument and play in bands with his friends.

The band normally describes Dougie as the quiet and shy one of the group. In the beginning, Dougie was very quiet in interviews; usually answering with only one word, or a very short sentence. Dougie explained, later on, that part of the reason of his behavior was because his dad left his mum and little sister when Dougie went to London for his audition and he was still shaken up about the whole thing. Years later, Dougie is now very open in interviews and talks much more. But he still is the most mysterious and "weird" one of the group.

Despite anyone's judgments about Dougie, he still attracts majority of the fan base. Everyone just loves Dougie.

Some personal facts about Dougie:

He loves pets, especially reptiles.
When he was younger he use to breed lizards and sell them for extra money. If Dougie never got involved with a band he would have probably studied reptiles.
Some of the nicknames he acquired were: Lizard King (self-explanatory) and Grunger (for his taste in music and his personal style.)
